The Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon Team Tournament is the only Great Lakes Salmon Team event that offers 100 percent cash payback. This event on Lake Ontario is also geared toward financially aiding some conservation resource enhancement projects, which are essential to Great Lakes sportfishing.

For the past 18 years, monies have been earmarked for an artificial reef project between the ports of Wilson and Olcott, site for this 19th annual event in 2003.

The reef project has a two-fold purpose: as an attractor reef for warm water fish and as a potential site for lake trout propagation. The first phase of construction is complete, and a study of the area is currently being done.

Most recently, money was used to help fund a Coastwatch Program through Sea Grant that gives anglers thermal imaging of surface temperatures on the lake. Both Niagara and Oswego help contribute funds. Money was also used to purchase a recirculating pump for the Altmar Hatchery - an essential ingredient to insure increased size production and a better quality fish. This benefits everyone on the entire lake, and wouldn't have been possible without either the fishermen or the sponsors.

A chinook salmon fin-clip study was also conducted. Last year, over $2,000 was raised for the Niagara Cerebral Palsy.
